Blanketing the country with Eric McCabe

Signature Disc Golf Courses

For more than two decades, professional disc golfer Eric McCabe’s passion was winning national tournaments. In that time he has earned almost 100 wins and was crowned the 2010 PDGA World Disc Golf Champion.

McCabe still relishes a good win, but his bigger joy is designing disc golf courses all across the country for others to enjoy. “It has been an honor to have someone like Dynamic Discs standing behind my name and us putting our names together, collaborating to help grow the sport.” McCabe said.

With the explosion of sport, McCabe is seeing a dramatic increase in demand for his services. He is having to work overtime to keep up. McCabe currently has several 18-hole courses under development and a large, 27-hole championship course in Michigan.

Dynamic Discs and Eric McCabe offer a turnkey design and installation services for clients.

McCabe’s years of experience play into developing a better course.

“As a touring professional for more than 20 years, I have played every type of course imaginable,” McCabe said. “Some good, some bad. As a professional I know what pros look for, so it gives me an ability to create a championship course.”

McCabe spends several weeks to conceptualize the courses, a process which involves visiting and walking the courses. Once his plans are approved by clients, he oversees the installation process.

“I have been a player for so many decades,” McCabe said. “I am really enjoying working with clients and turning their properties into amazing courses that people will get to enjoy for decades to come.”

Taking Trivia To The Next Level - Can You Guess The Mold?

We like to have fun with our videos, and although silly antics are often involved, we also test the knowledge and patience of some of the DD team. We selected 10 Dynamic Discs molds and put some sweet looking blindfolds on Jeremy Rusco, Robert McCall, and Eric McCabe.

Not only did they have to guess the mold but we also asked them to identify the plastic too. Each was worth one point, for a total possible score of 20. How did they do? You’ll have to watch the video to see, but we will give you a bit of a spoiler - one of the three guys got every single point possible!

However, we do think this video points to an important and interesting point when it comes to discs and the selection you keep in your bag. Often times players will get hung up on specific molds and plastics, insisting that they “have to” throw it for one reason or another. But think about this - even our own team members couldn’t discern certain molds or plastics simply by feeling them, so how much of a difference is there really between certain selections?

We’re not implying that you can just grab any disc and throw it for any shot because that’s obviously not the case. However, you might want to take a moment and consider opening up your horizons a bit the next time you make a disc order. If we can’t tell the difference, can you?

Dynamic Course Design Feature - The El Dorado Disc Golf Course At Legion Park in El Dorado, KS

There’s a new gem in the town of El Dorado, as Kansas city officials recently approved and installed an 18 hole course at Legion Park. Utilizing land that was formerly a ball golf course, Eric McCabe and the DD team had a blast designing a course that would be fair yet challenging.

We got a little more information from Kevin Wishart, El Dorado’s Parks and Recreation Director, to learn more about the process of installing the course and how he thinks it will affect this small town of about 13,000.

Dynamic Discs Was A Natural Fit

Given that El Dorado sits about 60 miles from Emporia, it was an obvious choice to work with DD when Wishart’s department started discussing the option of opening a course. The city formed a specific Disc Golf Committee, and after some research, they decided to schedule a meeting with Eric to find out all about Dynamic Course Design.

Kevin and his team are pretty new to the sport of disc golf, stating: “We understood that disc golf continued to grow; we had a space that needed a new use, and we had several citizens express interest in a local course.  Otherwise, our background was limited.” After a meeting between Eric, Kevin, and the town’s DG Committee, the decision was clear. “Once the committee made a recommendation, we got out of the way and let Eric do his thing,” Wishart said.

About El Dorado DGC

As with all of McCabe’s course designs, the El Dorado Disc Golf Course utilizes a great layout and allows players to complete the 18 holes in up to four different ways. Veteran baskets were installed along with dual tee pads across the course. Both beginners and more experienced players will appreciate the course’s terrain, and while it’s mostly flat, there are some lightly wooded areas that create a bit of a challenge.

El Dorado players can already feel the disc golf buzz growing quickly, as a professionally designed course brings individuals from neighboring communities to come play. Wishart notes that bringing in a Dynamic Discs affiliated course is already helping to bolster El Dorado’s economy too: “We believe that our disc golf playing population will continue to increase and that the quality of the course will bring players to town from the region.  It is our hope that they spend a few dollars locally while here.”

How Can Your Town Get A Dynamic Course Design?

Working with Eric and team to get a disc golf course installed in your neck of the woods isn’t difficult. Like the staff in El Dorado, you don’t need a ton of background knowledge about the sport - just a desire from the community and a viable piece of land. Wishart says: “Our process with DD was really very simple.”

DD's Luck Of The Draw Doubles Was A Huge Success

If you're lucky enough to live in or near Emporia, then you just might have been a player or spectator at our first ever Luck of the Draw skins match at Peter Pan Park. For those of you who didn't get a chance to come out to the event, here's a quick recap of how it all went down!

DD Team Manager Robert McCall did an awesome job explaining how the day was going to work. Each hole would be played by Eric McCabe, Paige Pierce, and Ricky Wysocki, and tickets drawn would determine who their partner would be. With up to $88 available to win per hole, there was a good chance to make some money and get to play with a World Champion.

With super jump putts and CTPs determining some of the holes, a joyful gallery had a great time watching the event. Players young and old got the chance to show off their skills and impress the pros with some awesome shots.

After 6 holes, Ricky and assorted players were leading the match. You can check out holes 7-12 here.

We don't want to ruin the ending for you, so be sure to watch part 3 and the final 6 holes here. Our skins match was a hit and a good time was had by all!
