Meet the New Face behind The United States Amateur Match Play Championship: Scott Reek

At Dynamic Discs, we love match play because anything can happen. Players with lower ratings can beat higher-rated players, and the damage from taking a big number on a hole can be limited to just that hole, as it only counts as one hole lost. Each hole in match play is almost like a new match or a new opportunity to compete. The United States Amateur Match Play Championships has brought disc golf match play to the national stage, and today, we're excited to announce that Scott Reek will be taking over the leadership for the USAMPC moving forward!

Scott is no stranger to the disc golf tournament scene, as he has played in over 220 PDGA tournaments, but he brings a wealth of Tournament Director knowledge as well, having directed over 140 PDGA tournaments. Scott's passion for running events is evident as he has run events like the PDGA Masters World Championships, Midwest Amateur Championships, and the Kansas City Wide Open. Reek began playing disc golf in the mid-1990s and ran the Kansas Disc Golf Association before joining the Air Force in 2003. Before moving back to Kansas City, Reek was the President of the Appleton Area Disc Golf Club in Wisconsin, which is one of the most densely populated disc golf scenes. Upon returning to Kansas, Scott took the reins as President of the Kansas City Flying Disc Club. Scott also has history with Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside Discs, as he served as General Manager of the Dynamic Discs Kansas City retail store and is a sponsored player for Latitude 64.

Doug Bjerkaas, the Events Director for Dynamic Discs, is thrilled to bring Scott on board for these events. "The USAMPC is positioned for a ton of growth as Scott Reek takes charge of both the spring and fall editions of the event in 2020! Scott has a great deal of TD experience. He also has the added experience of running local and state match play brackets each of the last two years. He is passionate about match play and has already shared with me some exciting changes to be implemented next year," Bjerkaas shared.

We can't wait to hear about some of the changes and improvements that Scott will make to the USAMPC, and we're thrilled to see it grow. Please join us in welcoming Scott Reek to the Dynamic Discs family!

The 2019 US Amateur Match Play Championships - Here's What You Need To Know

The Dynamic Discs and Latitude 64 family is excited to bring you another year of awesome competition across the nation with the United States Amateur Match Play Championships. We had such a great turnout over the course of 2018 and can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store. By partnering with UDisc, we’re able to help facilitate both singles and doubles matches across the US and culminate the event in Emporia to crown a winner.

If you’re new to the USAMPC, we’re here to give you a rundown on how you can play, how you can host your own event, and update you on some exciting changes for this year!

Hosting A Bracket

Individuals who are interested in running an event in their area can apply to host a bracket. Once your application has been accepted, you can begin to promote your bracket and get up to 16 players registered. We make it easy by offering a complete TD package and have added an extra bonus this year - local and state TDs have the option to purchase up to 16 unreleased Latitude 64 Moonshine Keystones at $10 a piece.

So much of the success of these brackets comes from the individual TDs, so making sure you have the time and organizational skills to host multiple matches is key. You have the option of fitting everything into one weekend or can stretch it out over the course of one month. Managing sign-ups is even easier now as players can register directly on UDisc as well.

Your Chance To Win

There is an amazing wealth of disc golf talent across the United States, and the USAMPC gives players the opportunity to really show their stuff. As an added incentive to put your all into these events, we’ve made some changes on the player side for 2019. Now, competitors who win their local bracket but do not win their state bracket will have the opportunity to come to Emporia! State bracket winners now walk away with double the winnings with $1,000 in DD store credit instead of $500 cash like last year.

Keep in mind that the spirit of this system is to encourage and promote the amateur players in our sport, so you must have a rating of 969 or below to be eligible. Players without a PDGA number or ones with expired memberships are still eligible as well. As bracket applications begin to get approved, you’ll soon start to see a list of places where you can compete. Some players prefer to stay close to home initially while others are so excited that they’ll travel across their state just to play!

There is a lot more information related to the United States Amateur Match Play Championships, so for a complete list of rules, FAQs, and more tidbits of data, visit www.discgolfmatchplay.com. We can’t wait to see who comes away as the winner this year - remember, they’ll receive the baskets and tee signs for an eighteen-hole disc golf course and $6,000 worth of discs and apparel at the Dynamic Discs Retail store!

Check Out The Finals At The United States Amateur Matchplay Championships!

We’ve had such a great time hosting the US Amateur Matchplay Championships this year, as it’s an exciting way for players across the nation to compete for a pretty sweet prize and, of course, huge bragging rights.

Our highlight video shows Matt Whitlock from South Carolina and Jacob Dills from Oregon battle it out for this year’s win. Here are some highlights if you can’t watch the whole video right now:

  • Both players had to contend with OB at Peter Pan Park and the stress of shot for shot play, and while some shots may not have ended up exactly like they wanted, both played incredibly well
  • The mental aspect of the game really came into focus as the players could control the pressure they put on the other with each shot and putt
  • After 10 holes, Whitlock was at +3 for the round with Dills shooting an even par

Did the tides turn on the back nine for Matt or did Jacob continue his lead? You’ll have to watch the video to find out who took home 18 Veteran baskets and discs for life!

If you’re interested in getting in on the action, we still have our doubles brackets happening. Visit DiscGolfMatchPlay.com to sign up today!
